On March 5th at the Outreach and Technical Assistance Network Technical and Distance Learning Symposium 2021 (OTAN TDL), Colin Carmon represented the Institute for Intelligent Systems and the federally funded AutoTutor for Adult Reading Comprehension (AutoTutor-ARC). He presented “Interactive Desktop Simulations: Digital Literacy Skills Tutorials for Instructors and Students,” focusing on developing digital literacy modules as a subcomponent of AutoTutor. The digital literacy skills module aims to bring a target population of struggling adult readers to a baseline proficiency in digital literacy skills. Additionally, the audience received guidance in scaffolding students’ learning goals. Interactive desktop simulations show great promise in accommodating these aims through the promotion of digital literacy skills and tasks that students or instructors may encounter while accessing or using AT-ARC.
